Social movements and indigeneity in Latin America and the Wallmapu: pathways to decoloniality

conf pic sourcerankalef

This two-day interdisciplinary conference and workshop builds a North-South dialogue about social movements, indigeneity and democracy in Latin America, including special sessions on Mapuche indigenous activism in the Wallmapu, Chile, with Natalia Caniguan, Director of the Indigenous Studies Institute, Universidad de la Frontera and Miguel Melín, leader of the Alianza Territorial Mapuche. In solidarity with the ongoing UCU strike, the event also involves broader discussions of indigenous movements and environmental justice, looking for new paths towards decolonising academia with activists and movement leaders. It builds on this to advance a North-South dialogue in theories of social movements, indigenous and extraction-related struggles, and protest outcomes.
