About The Role:
The Latin American Centre (LAC) in the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA), University of Oxford, seeks applications for a full-time, fixed-term, Departmental Lectureship in Latin American Studies.
This is an excellent opportunity to join the largest community of Area Studies scholars anywhere in the world. The role is available from 1st September 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter, until 30th September 2026.
Specifically, the Departmental Lecturer in Latin American Studies will be responsible for lecturing and teaching postgraduate students; conducting independent research, and for directing the Brazil Studies Programme at Oxford.
The postholder's main duties will include the supervision of graduate students; teaching on the politics of Brazil and the social science of Latin America more generally. The successful candidate will be given an opportunity to contribute to research, research facilitation, and academic administration of the Latin American Centre and to support the rich diversity of the academic and social communities at the School and the Centre, while exchanging ideas and supporting all OSGA activities more broadly.
She/he will engage in assessment and university examining, and serve as the first contact for student matters relating to attendance, conduct, coursework, performance, and welfare (referring matters to appropriate others).
Further main responsibilities include participating in the graduate student admissions process, in milestone assessments for postgraduate research students working on Latin America, as well as identifying sources of research income, developing research proposals, and writing funding applications.
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with talented people whilst supporting the relationship of the Latin American Centre with key stakeholders as well as helping to build new relationships with potential funders and supporters.
The post-holder will be based in the University of Oxford Latin America Centre, 1 Church Walk, Oxford, OX2 6LY.
About You:
We welcome applicants holding a completed relevant PhD/DPhil in Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Political Economy, History or a related discipline with a specialisation in Brazil and/or Latin America. Applicants should have a strong publication record or an active research agenda with manuscripts under review.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and Black and Minority Ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
