LAC Main Seminar Series: Journalism and Power in the Age of Social Media

Juanita León is a Colombian journalist, founder and director of La Silla Vacia, the most influential political news site in her country. She’s written several books. Country of Bullets:chronicles of war was published by New Mexico University Press. She was Harvard Norman Fellow in 2006 and an Open Society Fellow.  She was an Academic Visitor at St. Antony’s College in 2018-19; and will be an Academic Visitor at the LAC in MT 2019.

Alan Rusbridger is the Principal of Lady Margaret Hall at the University of Oxford. He also chairs the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and sits on the board of the Royal National Theatre in London. He was previously editor-in-chief of The Guardian from 1995 to 2015.In 2014 he received the Right Livelihood Award in Stockholm, the European Press Prize and the Ortega y Gasset Award in Madrid.  He is the author of Play It Again: Why Amateurs Should Attempt the Impossible (2012), of three children’s books, of a BBC drama entitled Fields of Gold with Ronan Bennett, and of Breaking News: The Remaking of Journalism and Why It Matters Now (Canongate Books, 2018).
