Valentina Infante-Batiste, who co-edited (with Richard D. Wlkinson) the book Fifty Years of Human Rights in Chile.  Essays in Honour of Alan Angell (2024), writes:

'Alan left a profound mark on my doctoral journey at Oxford. He served as one of my examiners for both my Transfer of Status and Confirmation of Status, and his thoughtful comments, constructive criticism, and generous guidance were instrumental in helping me overcome the immense challenge of completing a DPhil. I will always cherish the afternoons spent having tea with Alan and Susan in their home, as well as our long conversations about contemporary Chilean politics. Those moments reflected not only his extraordinary intellectual generosity but also his genuine warmth and kindness. It was an absolute privilege and an honour to have known Alan. His humanity, intellectual rigour, and immense knowledge of Chile and Latin America shaped me as a student, scholar, and person. The impact he had on my life will remain with me forever.
