Dr Francesca Lessa interviewed by The Guardian

On July 8, 2019, Dr Francesca Lessa was interviewed by The Guardian newspaper regarding the verdict in the Operation Condor trial, which was handed down in Rome. The Appeals Court sentenced to life imprisonment 24 defendants from Bolivia, Chile, Peru and Uruguay for the murders of Italian and Uruguayan citizens committed between 1973 and 1980. This important trial began in 1999.

The very evening of the verdict, she was also interviewed by Radio Uruguay to provide a preliminary assessment of the sentence (in Spanish).

Subsequently, Dr Lessa also participated in a press conference at the Fondazione Basso, which houses the Permanent Peoples Tribunal in Rome, for a preliminary analysis of the verdict’s significance and, furthermore, took part in a discussion at the movie theatre Apollo 11 after the screening of the documentary “La Memoria del Condor” together with lawyers and human rights activists.
