Dr Hiroaki Matsuura has taken up the post of Departmental Lecturer in the Economy of Japan starting January 2013. Dr Matsuura joins us from Harvard University where he has recently completed a doctorate on "Rights, Health Laws, and Health Outcomes".
On Monday 10 December, the LAC co-hosted a conference in Lima on the political economy of social inclusion in Latin America. The conference, which was attended by more than 400 people, was co-sponsored by CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the Universidad del Pacífico.

On 23rd November 2012, Dr Svitlana Chernykh and Dr Timothy Power presented the CPP project to an audience of faculty and graduate students in the Department of Political Science, University of Salamanca.
On Friday 2 November 2012, the LAC held its first reception for visiting researchers and DPhil students who are working on Latin America. The reception was opened by LAC Director, Professor Leigh A. Payne.
The Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies is sad to announce that during the summer vacation Mark Rebick decided to take early retirement from his post as University Lecturer in the Economy of Japan. He joins Ann Waswo and Arthur Stockwin as an emeritus fellow of the institute.
