Sudhir Hazareesingh is Fellow and Tutor in Politics at Balliol College, Oxford, and a Fellow of the British Academy. He has written extensively on the political culture of modern France, and is a regular contributor to the Times Literary Supplement. His most recent book is Black Spartacus (Allen Lane, 2020), a biography of the Haitian revolutionary leader Toussaint Louverture.

 

Carrie Gibson is an independent researcher and author of El Norte: The Epic and Forgotten Story of Hispanic North America (Grove Atlantic, 2019) and Empire’s Crossroads: A History of the Caribbean from Columbus to the Present Day (Pan Macmillan, 2014). She received her PhD from Cambridge in 2011, and her thesis focused on the Hispanic Caribbean in the era of the Haitian Revolution. Prior to this, she was a journalist for the Guardian and Observer, and continues to contribute to media outlets. She is currently working on a history of abolition in the Americas.
