Professor Christopher J. Gerry publishes in Social Science Indicators
A new paper has been published by Christopher Gerry and his team of Russian researchers examining the emerging patterns of life expectancy across 30 OECD countries, including 11 East European countries. The paper describes how these post-communist countries have experienced a diversity of outcomes, with some countries (e.g. Czech Republic) beginning to ‘catch-up’ with the leading OECD countries while others (e.g. Russia, Ukraine, Belarus) remain stuck in low performing equilibria. The innovative methodology applied in the paper allows the authors to identify distinctive gender and age specific patterns that have emerged within the post-communist region over the previous half century.
