'Who Are 'We'? Reimagining Alterity and Affinity in Anthropology' co-edited by Professor Nayanika Mathur has just been published by Berghahn Books (New York).
Japan-based filmmaker John Williams, who spent a sabbatical last year with us, has made a new film which will be on release in Tokyo from Saturday 30 June for three weeks with English subtitles. The film 審判 or "The Trial" is based on Franz Kafka's famous work but set in contemporary Tokyo.

Yotam Gidron (MSc class of 2016-2017) has published a version of his excellent dissertation (supervised by Sebabatso Manoeli) in the Journal of Eastern African Studies. Yotam is now on a DPhil programme in Durham University.
LAC faculty and students turned out in great numbers to the International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association in Barcelona (23-26 May 2018). This was the first LASA held in Europe and the largest meeting ever, with nearly 8000 participants.
Mr Fergus Cochrane-Dyet, the United Kingdom High Commissioner to Zambia, presented a lunch seminar entitled “Is Britain Still Relevant to Africa?” at the African Studies Centre on Monday, 21 May.
The EC has now opened the 2018 Call for Proposals for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships. SIAS will select and support excellent experienced researchers of any nationality and age, that comply with MSCA mobility rules.

The University of Brasília Press has just released a new book by LAC alumnus Danilo Limoeiro. Entitled Além das Transferências de Renda (Beyond Income Transfers), the monograph examines the reduction of inter-regional inequalities in Brazil during the 2000s.
Dr Rachel Murphy gave her presentation at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences Workshop on Sustainable Urban Development. The workshop was held on 25th-26th March 2015.
