Latin American Centre Seminars: Colombia's Road to Peace
Sergio Jaramillo is currently the Colombian Ambassador in Belgium and head of the Colombian Mission to the European Union. He studied Philosophy and Greek at the University of Toronto and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. He received an M.Phil in Philosophy from Cambridge and pursued additional post-graduate studies in classical philology at Heidelberg University in Germany. He was Executive Director of the Fundación Ideas para la Paz, a leading think-tank devoted to conflict resolution in Colombia, and a research associate at the Universidad de los Andes. He also has a long career as a civil servant, including posts at the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence, where he served as Vice-Minister. Before his current post, he was National Security Adviser and High Commissioner for Peace in the government’s team that negotiated the peace accord with the FARC.
